Traveling to Kuala Lumpur can be an exciting adventure, but navigating a new city may feel a little overwhelming, especially if it's your first visit. Fortunately, Kuala Lumpur is well equipped for international travelers. At Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), you'll find clear signage in both English and Malay directing you to immigration, baggage claim, taxis, ride-hailing pickup areas, airport trains, buses, and other transportation options.
If you're ever unsure where to go, don't hesitate to ask airport staff or stop by an information counter. They're accustomed to assisting visitors from around the world and are happy to point you in the right direction.
Tip: Save your hotel name and address on your phone (or keep a printed copy with you). It's especially helpful when using taxis or ride-hailing services like Grab, which is the most commonly used ride-hailing app in Malaysia.

¶ Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the primary international gateway to Malaysia and serves the vast majority of international and domestic flights. Located approximately 55 km (34 miles) from the city center, the airport is modern, easy to navigate, and well-signposted in both English and Malay.
Travelers have several convenient transportation options from the airport, including Grab (Malaysia's most popular ride-hailing service), taxis, airport buses, rental cars, and the KLIA Ekspres train, which reaches Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station in approximately 28 minutes. From there, you can connect to the city's rail network or continue to your hotel by Grab or taxi.
The airport offers a wide range of traveler amenities, including restaurants, cafés, currency exchange, ATMs, SIM card vendors, luggage storage, and free Wi-Fi, making it easy to get settled before heading into the city.
¶ Train 
The KLIA Ekspres is the fastest and most convenient way to travel between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the city center. The non-stop train reaches KL Sentral Station in approximately 28 minutes, with departures every 15–20 minutes during most of the day.
Tickets can be purchased online, at station ticket counters, or from self-service ticket machines. Once at KL Sentral, you can easily connect to Kuala Lumpur's rail network or take a Grab or taxi to your hotel.

Kuala Lumpur Rail Network (MRT, LRT & Monorail)
Kuala Lumpur has an extensive rail network operated by Rapid KL, making it easy to travel throughout the city. The MRT, LRT, and Monorail systems connect many popular destinations, shopping districts, hotels, and business areas.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni) operates an extensive network of buses and light rail throughout San Francisco. Muni buses are a convenient way to reach neighborhoods not directly served by BART or trains. Fares can be paid using the Clipper Card, the MuniMobile app, or ticket machines at select stops. For many IETF attendees, Grab is the easiest way to travel around Kuala Lumpur. Grab is Malaysia's most popular ride-hailing service, offering reliable, cashless transportation throughout the city and from the airport. Taxis are also readily available at designated taxi stands at KLIA and throughout Kuala Lumpur.

English is widely spoken in Kuala Lumpur, and most hotels, airports, transportation systems, and tourist attractions provide signage and services in English.
¶ Money Conversion 
The official currency of Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, and most businesses throughout Kuala Lumpur. ATMs are readily available at the airport, shopping malls, and throughout the city if you need to withdraw cash.
