Background: proposal for a community activity around curating and organizing educational resources for Internet research and modern Internet technologies. Initial wiki: https://wiki.ietf.org/group/irtf/edu
There was general support for the idea, tempered by concerns about scope and long term maintenance of any materials produced. Discussion also touched on making this a working group to create responsibility, with a different mode of operation.
Brian raised the question of what would be most useful to bridge the gap between standardization and what you can get in a textbook.
Colin mentioned that where the IRTF can add value is with the people building things/implementations.
There was a suggestion to set up categories of topics and dedicate someone to look into each. Dirk mentioned that all ideas are welcome and asked everyone to edit the wiki directly.
Brian mentioned that creating ready made assets for educators isn't step one. Step one is probably looking at what's already out there. The idea of basing education on implementations is a good one. If we put something on the agenda for IETF 127 and try to pull in other folks who also teach, an open meeting could work well. We'd aim for Thursday or Friday, with an open room to hear what people have to say. Brian volunteered to sit at the front of the room.
Colin also offered to help.
Allison suggested provisional chairs at IETF 127, with the possibility of rotating chairs going forward.
Dirk summed things up, suggesting we not ignore existing efforts and instead focus on the angle where the IRTF can add value. He will set up a side meeting for IETF 127 during the second half of the week.

Motivation: several IETF activities are addressing near-/medium-term protocol issues around AI agents (DAWN, AGENTPROTO/ACP, DMSC, OAuth/WIMSE, etc.). A Net4AI RG would complement these with longer-term and clean-slate research on networking for distributed, multi-stakeholder AI systems, and provide a bridge to the networking/systems research community.
Potential research topics:
Network architectures for distributed AI
Adaptation of existing Internet transports to AI workloads
Agent-specific communication
AI-oriented caching and content distribution
Naming, identity, trust, and security for agents
Experimental methodology and research infrastructure
Overall research objective: develop principled networking abstractions and architectures for distributed and agentic AI, especially in areas currently receiving less attention in mainstream AI-systems research: autonomous agents, decentralization, Internet-scale AI architectures, and multi-stakeholder AI ecosystems.
Dirk mentioned that he has found 1 chair and is still looking for another.
Lixia noticed that the AI community is one community and the networking community is a different one and when they interact together they found that the AI people don’t really understand the networking. If this group can bring together people from different communities to interact, that will help move things forward.
Dirk raised the question, starting research groups on these topics is an interesting exercise because you want to create an attractive environment to contribute. What can people get out of this?
Colin mentioned that the main thing is to have chairs that can say “no” to marketing hype.
Dirk requested to let him know if you have ideas for co-chairs.
Colin suggested a range of geographies for the chairs.
Future of HRPC
Mallory and Dirk have been discussing the future of HRPC. They have been looking for a new co-chair and the future of the group. If you have any ideas, feel free to share on the list or speak to Dirk privately.
