The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Nominating Committee (NomCom) is seeking accomplished and independent delegates to select global leaders who will help shape the future of Internet governance.
NomCom delegates are entrusted with one of ICANN’s most consequential responsibilities: selecting the leaders who guide ICANN’s mission to ensure a secure, stable, and resilient Internet.
The NomCom plays a pivotal role in strengthening ICANN’s leadership capacity to address emerging technologies, cybersecurity risks, and evolving governance challenges. Delegate’s decisions will directly influence the composition of ICANN’s Board, ICANN’s affiliate’s Board, the leadership of ICANN community policy development structures, and Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) – shaping how the global Internet evolves for billions of users worldwide.
The NomCom consists of 18 delegates appointed by ICANN’s Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, along with a leadership team appointed annually by the ICANN Board. Delegates serve staggered two-year terms, with half appointed each year.
Service as a NomCom delegate represents a significant contribution to the stewardship of the global Internet.
NomCom delegates serve in their individual capacities and do not represent their appointing bodies, employers, or stakeholder groups. Delegates must exercise independent judgment and act solely in the global public interest.
Service as a NomCom delegate calls for a two-year commitment and sustained engagement across two 12-month cycles. Delegates must have sufficient professional flexibility to accommodate predictable periods of increased intensity, particularly during the assessment phase (March–June).
A NomCom delegate’s integrity and objectivity will be essential throughout the selection process, including strategic outreach, rigorous selection, and consensus-building to secure the most balanced and capable leadership team for ICANN.
The NomCom recruits leadership for some of the most influential positions in Internet governance:
Service as NomCom delegate requires sustained engagement through two 12-month cycles, with predictable periods of increased intensity. Delegates must have sufficient professional flexibility to accommodate peak assessment demands.
Delegates are expected to prioritize NomCom responsibilities during this peak period.
Duration: Two-year term beginning and ending at ICANN Annual General Meetings.
Compensation: This is a non-compensated volunteer position. The reward is the satisfaction of knowing that NomCom delegates’ independent judgment will help shape the Internet’s governance for years to come.
Eligibility: Individuals may serve up to two terms, but not consecutively. A minimum interval of two years is required between terms.
ICANN will provide travel support for approved participation in NomCom-hosted meetings, training sessions, and workshops, including coverage of airfare, lodging, per diem, and other properly documented and reimbursable expenses incurred in accordance with applicable policies.
